Mark Dantonio (Head Football Coach-Michigan St. Univ.)

Mark was a football star at Zanesville High School and later at the University of South Carolina, but has since risen to the game’s top level as a collegiate head football coach.
His coaching career began in 1980 as a graduate assistant at Ohio University and along the way Mark has worked with some of college football’s elite coaches, including Jim Tressel, Nick Saban and Earle Bruce.
As a Blue Devil, Mark was a three-year starter and was defensive captain of a Central Ohio League championship team that also posted the first win over Upper Arlington after five years of that school’s membership in the league. He was All-COL and All-Ohio, and was also chosen to play in the North/South All-Star Game.

2013 Blue Devils
~The Man In The Arena~

The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."
The 2013 Zanesville Blue Devil Football Team provided us with one of the greatest seasons in Blue Devil Football History. They enjoyed a 13-1 overall record and were only the second 10-0 team in Zanesville High School History). They were 2013 ECOL Scarlet Div Champions, Division II AP Poll Champions, Region V Champions, and a 2013 Division II State Semifinalist.
The Blue Devils Playoff run included wins over Columbus St. Charles 38-0, Worthington Kilbourne 36-0, and New Albany 35-28 before dropping a crushing 38-35 double OT contest to the eventual State Champion Loveland Tigers.
Along with winning the 2013 ECOL title the Blue Devils also ended the 39 league game ECOL winning streak that Dover High School had put together. Dover previously had not lost an ECOL football game since 2006. That season the Devils averaged 48 points per game on offense (53 points per game in the regular season) and held their opposition to 11 per game.
Nineteen Seniors and their supporting cast established a standard of Zanesville Blue Devil Football that will not soon be forgotten. For that effort we thank them all!
